I find it interesting that there has been a lot of research and studies, more videos on youtube in recent years on the benefits of cold showers for everything from increasing mental alertness to helping raise metabolism, however, I thought I would share this benefit to authors who may need to take a periodic break from writing to give the brain a rest from looking at a computer screen and help revitalize overall mood and concentration. As writers I think most of you are adapted and used to looking at a computer screen for hours on end, however, there are improvements many people can do to make their time in front of a screen more bearable, cold showers being one of them. Not going to bore you with video after video of the benefits of a cold shower as there are already many videos out there, but I first heard of this therapy back around 2011 or 2012, can’t remember which off the top of my head, from a book called the “4 Hour Body” by Tim Ferriss. I have used cold showers to help get through my masters degree, being as there is tons of writing involved to helping get through my associates in IT. I know what it feels like to look at a computer screen for hours on end, writing, reading, and browsing youtube endlessly and I can say taking a cold shower does help with brain fog, can replace coffee as a somewhat of a stimulant to the body to help you get back in focus.
This video is one of Ray Cronise who I think was one of the first people to popularize the method as a means of weight loss, but I think for myself most of the benefits are more psychological or metabolic, and how I feel afterwards it helps to wake you up a bit.
Check it out. Hope this helps with the writing!
