Mortal Kombat Movie 2021
The new Mortal Kombat movie is almost out. I am very excited to see this as I have been a Mortal Kombat fan since the 90’s when it first appeared. Seeing characters such as Sub Zero battle Scorpion will be pretty awesome once again especially considering that we really need to start getting back to the theaters because of the pandemic and being cooped inside all day. Before I saw the trailer I was a bit apprehensive about another Mortal Kombat movie because in years past they seemed to start well with the first Mortal Kombat movie in the 90’s but then the subsequent movies seemed to go downhill very quickly….I think I saw the next one and it was so bad.
Anyway, the trailer I want to review is this one:
The one above is age restricted, so if you are not signed into youtube as an adult it may not let you watch it….you can see the same trailer here:
Initial Thoughts and Reaction
Initial thoughts are that I think I’m going to really enjoy this movie. One thing I wished the earlier versions of the movie delve into is the sub plot of Scorpion vs Sub Zero, which this trailer seems to indicate that there may be a little rivaly in this movie between Sub Zero and Scorpion. The reason this is important is because in the original Mortal Kombat of the 90’s the only reason Scorpion wants to enter into the tournament is to get back at Sub Zero for killing his family…if I remember correctly that is.
Other Points of Interest and Enjoyment
From the trailer, it seems as if we are going to see a lot of things which I do believe I will be enjoying in this film. For starters, the part in the trailer where Sub Zero makes a weapon from the blood of Scorpion? Wow! Impressive and creative on the part of the filmmakers for this.
Other things I’m going to enjoy are seeing the list of characters such as Raiden, Kung Lao, Kano, and all the other characters who, initially were not part of Mortal Kombat 1, but were in subsequent Mortal Kombats, but I think that’s ok. I’m really going to enjoy seeing these characters and my personal favorite is Sub Zero. As a kid, he was my favorite character to play and I am looking forward to seeing a better rendition of his character…actually not that the character done in the Mortal Kombat 1 movie of the 90’s was bad per se, it is just we didn’t see him fight Scorpion and he seemed to be some sort of puppet of Shang Tsung in a way, so it didn’t really follow the game so much then which is why I”m looking forward to seeing this version of the characters.
So in the below video I thought I’d share with you what I mean about Sub Zero and Scorpion working together, don’t get me wrong it was a cool scene but really according to the game they are mortal enemies:
