Tonight I’m supposed to see the new movie “Joker” and just wanted to write a pre movie thought on the subject. I have mentioned to a few people that I will be seeing this movie and I”m getting the impression that people either love it or hate it.
I’m not really sure what to think about the reception that the movie has received, although I must admit that there is a part of me that is not sure what to think about elevating a sociopath, unredeemable character such as the Joker to a hero status, which is what I think this movie is hinting at. I guess it depends on your point of view really on what you think about the Joker, I have always had in mind that he really is a psychopath, sociopath, and is unredeemable as he is a killer, a cold blooded one at that.
We’ll see how this goes, but rotten tomatoes seems to indicate that most people have at least been entertained by it.

What does that say about our entertainment? Our culture? When a psychopath/villain is seen as the hero of the movie?
I don’t know the answer to that, but I”m hoping that if they reboot the Batman franchise which is what it looks like they are going to do, it turns out well.
I will say that this is how capitalism works though, the Joker is an incredibly popular character especially given Heath Ledgers performance of him a few years ago, however, I don’t think anyone is expecting this new Joker to even compare to the Heath Ledger Joker, but they now know that they have a popular character on their hands and the money is there, so why wouldn’t they?
What do you all think? Do you think this is a good financial move for the studios or do you think given that to make a few dollars it is wise to elevate a psychopathic killer to the status of a demi hero?
I haven’t seen the movie, I”m just giving my pre movie thoughts on this.
